Younger Optics adds MR-8™ material offering to LED Pro™ Lenses
Younger Optics has announced the expansion of LED Pro lenses to include 1.60 index MR-8 material by Mitsui Chemicals. Initially launched at Vision Expo in high index 1.67 MR‑10™ material, LED Pro lenses introduced a unique solution for patients affected by the growing prevalence of LED illumination in everyday life.
About the lens
LED Pro lenses are the first patented ophthalmic lens technology engineered to selectively absorb the intense wavelengths that cause visual discomfort in white LED lighting. Modern white LEDs generate sharp intensity peaks at 450 nm and 590 nm, wavelengths known to trigger glare, fatigue, and visual discomfort — especially during night driving, computer use, and visually demanding tasks performed under artificial lighting. LED Pro lenses incorporate specialized selective‑absorption dyes that precisely target these two intensity peaks, reducing discomfort without compromising optical clarity.

Why is this material expansion important for eye care practices?
Lenses made from MR-8 offer great benefits, such as higher Abbe value, at a lower price point when compared to MR-10. Eye care practices can now offer more patients a solution to the common problem of eye discomfort caused by bright white LED light, that is different from blue-light lenses.
What is the current availability?
LED Pro lenses are now available to labs in SFSV high index 1.60 MR-8 and 1.67 MR‑10 (hardcoated & uncoated). Both are available in eight base curves from 0.50 D to 7.00 D.
