Milestone Achieved Less Than One Year After Reaching One Million Children, Reflecting Surging Demand for Contrast Management–Based Myopia Control
SightGlass Vision today announced that two million children worldwide have now worn DOT™ spectacle lenses, reaching this milestone less than a year after surpassing the one million mark.[1]* This demonstrates rapid adoption of the lenses as eye care professionals seek effective ways to slow myopia progression in children. Powered by Diffusion Optics Technology™, DOT lenses are the first lenses that provide myopia control through contrast management.[2],[3]

In today’s crowded field of myopia treatments, that counts for a lot. Underpinning this growth is pivotal new clinical data demonstrating that DOT lenses saved more than 1D of myopia progression on average after two years in Chinese children aged 6 to 10.6†‡ This two-year data from SightGlass Vision’s CATHAY study also found that the lenses slowed average myopia progression by 67% (0.78D) and average axial length progression by 62% (0.40 mm) after two years of wear across the full study population of patients in China aged 6 to 13 versus the control group.6†

The lenses’ performance is rooted in research showing that contrast levels of artificial versus natural environments may lead to very different levels of eye growth.7 To mimic more natural contrast, DOT lenses’ unique design integrates thousands of elements that softly scatter light before it hits the retina.8 SightGlass Vision recently introduced its Control the Contrast professional education campaign to help more eye care professionals understand and apply this science.
DOT lenses first became available in 2021 and have since made their commercial debut in Canada, China, Israel, Spain, and the U.K., with additional market introductions anticipated in 2026.
