A special presentation of the Sea2See collection took place in April 2024 to mark the launch, in collaboration with Sea Shepherd, the non-profit direct-action marine conservation organisation.
Global player in sustainable optics, Sea2see and the Portuguese retail group, Optivisão – in collaboration with Sea Shepherd, have launched a new partnership marked by a special event, held in Troia, Portugal.
In Portugal, the Sea2see collection will be on sale exclusively at all Optivisão opticians and will contribute to Ghost Network Setúbal’s intervention in the conservation of the Portuguese ocean coast.
The collection will be available in all Optivisão optical stores. Attended by 260 participants, the partnership was announced at the annual Optivisão event by François Van Abeele, CEO and founder of Sea2see, and Christopher Storey, partnerships manager for Sea Shepherd Global and Pedro Finamore, from Sea Shepherd Portugal, who were invited to Troia by André Brodheim, CEO, and António Amorim, general director, of Optivisão.
The special 2-day launch event provided a showcase of the Sea2see eyewear collections and an informative presentation about the Sea2see Foundation, allowing the audience a full immersion in terms of the brand’s history, “seastainable” activities to preserve the marine environment and positive social impact in West Africa, where the Foundation is based.
“We are delighted to launch Sea2see eyewear across all our optical stores in Portugal with immediate effect,” said Optivisão’s CEO, André Brodheim. “The oceans cover 70% of the water that is the source of 80% of the air we breathe. As sustainability is one of the values of the Optivisão Group and as a socially responsible brand, we feel the need to look out to the sea and contribute to the preservation of our oceans as a way of guaranteeing the sustainability of human existence”.
“Portugal is a country that has a strong connection with the ocean and for this reason it is imperative that we commit to a brand that is pioneering in its approach to protection the oceans with an active role through their Sea2see Foundation and designated activities designed to help clean our oceans and seas. Our community of optical retailers is fully on board with this new opportunity and ultimate goal in spreading the “seastainable” philosophy of the Sea2see brand.”
“We are a reference brand and leader in the optical sector in Portugal, and therefore it is strategic to reinvent business models and socially responsible behaviour that help make a difference”, added Brodheim.
In a statement about the launch, Sea2see’s Founder, François van den Abeele said: “This has been the perfect event to present the Sea2see collection for all of the Optivisão shops. It has been amazing for Sea2see to see their genuine commitment and willingness to help deliver a positive impact for our Oceans and in the optical industry. I am very inspired by this exceptional alignment with what we do, and we are proud to team up with them.”
Beyond the Sea2see main line, produced exclusively in 100% recycled marine plastic which is going into stores this month, a Sea2see x Sea Shepherd Capsule Collection is also in development. The capsule will be sold in Optivisão shops and provide financial benefit for Sea Shephard in their marine conservation work.
Founded in 1989, the Optivisão Group is Portugal’s premiere retail group, with 280 points of sale.
